From Breath to Breath

From Breath to Breath includes a collection of gentle, restorative somatic practices and movements, as well as incorporating some specific breathing exercises from the Breath-Body-Mind (BBM) program developed by Dr. Patricia Gerbarg and Dr. Richard P. Brown, with whom I have been training.

The practices in question can assist us with enhancing sleep, kindling calm from within, helping with focus and concentration, and presenting us with readily available tools that we can easily draw on during our day. For our time together as part of From Breath to Breath, we make enough space around ourselves to draw elegant circles with our arms—or to visualize our arms doing so. If possible, we bring a thin blanket or shawl to use during the final part of our session.

In reclaiming the sacredness of breath, we embody what is seen as a commonly understood automatic function of the body as a gift. We are therefore called to treat this gift with care and see it as a birthright bestowed on all whom this Earth houses.
